LEGISLATIVE  UPDATE

January 18, 2007

Hi folks. Just a quick note to bring everyone up to speed. I have been making the rounds at the Capitol and the reception has been warm. The Republicans are excited to have captured the speaker's seat in the senate and they are still organizing senate committees. I hope we will have those tomorrow and also the House subcommittee list.

Once all assignments are made it will be time to get the bills filed and start working the grass roots and start bringing on co-sponsors.

I have discussed the additional $2 on registrations with several key lawmakers and they all agree we need to pursue that approach. We will keep the $2 held back to be used as necessary during the process.

The ROW bill has caught the interest of several legislators and all have offered their support. The key to this bill is judges discretion on license suspensions.

I hope each of you has planned for lobby day. For those that can't come to Nashville, I encourage you to write letters and encourage others in your charter to do the same. I expect to have bill numbers by Feb. 3rd, also the day I have tentatively scheduled another legislative team meeting.

I will be meeting with the new Deputy Governor regarding the Motorcycle Advisory Council just as soon as he settles into his new office.

 Respectfully submitted,

Mike Hays
State Legislative Chairman
